We are a full service Fibre Mill (AKA Yarn Mill) located in British Columbia. We are located an easy two and a half-hour drive from the Lower Mainland. We strive to spin everything from lace weight to chunky.

Hand Scouring

An in-depth look at the hand scouring process.

Prepped Fleece for Scour

After the fleece has been tumbled, it is inspected as it is put into bags for the hand scouring process. Each bag will have been weighed to have between 2 to 2.5 lbs.

Prepped Fleece

Fleece Rinse

The fleece needs to be as clean as it can be before it is processed. Look at the difference from the first scour to the end rinse.

First Scour

The fleece is scoured 2 to 3 times depending on how dirty it is.

Clean Fleece

The fleece is then placed on drying racks. Such a difference! If the fleece is still dirty, it will be picked, then tumbled and washed again if needed.

  • What are your hours of operation?

    The Darn Yarn Shop & Fibre Mill is open Mondays through Fridays from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm and every Saturday from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. We are closed on Sundays. If you have any questions or would like an appointment, please contact us.

  • Where is your yarn mill located?

    Our yarn mill is located at 2812 Bowers Place, Kamloops, B.C. It’s on the outskirts of the city in the Southwest Industrial Park, visible from the highway when coming into town from the south from Vancouver or north from Prince George. It is easily accessible from the highway off Lac Le Jeune Road. We are on the corner of Bowers Place and Roper Place with the driveway located on Roper Place.


    We are centrally located in B.C., located near West Trans-Canada Highway 1 exit 366. Highways 1, 97, 5 and 5A all merge in Kamloops.

  • What is the current wait time on a finished order?

    The current wait time on a finished yarn order is 18+ months. Please contact us if you have any questions.

  • Do I need to make an appointment before I bring you my order?

    Yes! Please contact us before bringing your order in to make an appointment and fill out our custom milling form.

  • How do I get the best possible product from my fleece?

    Please review our Preparing Raw Fleece page to help get the best product possible from your fleece.

  • Do you offer returns?

    Yarn and other items must be returned in new condition within 30 days.

  • Is worsted spun yarn better than woolen spun yarn?

    Worsted Spun yarn has these attributes:


    • All fibres are combed
    • Short fibres removed
    • Remaining fibres are aligned and spun
    • Pill resistant and hard wearing
    • Amazing stitch definition
    • No prickle - Longer fibres mean no unwanted ends sticking out to scratch
